Next Saturday, April 16th, a team of nine enthusiastic travelers will be heading from GBC to Haiti. This trip includes three teens, Camila Duval, Dennaya Parker-Munden, and Connor Brown and culminates their high school mission’s experience. From local ministry, to participation in WorkcampNE and the LeaderTrek trip to the Navajo Nation, this sojourn to Haiti represents a broadening of each teen’s world-view to include a first-hand experience in the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere. The team will also include Rebecca Harms, helping with the teens; Sue Baker, nurse extraordinaire; John Pearson and Chad Smith, the construction crew; and Andy and Sherylann Bonner, who plan to drink coffee.
On Sunday and Monday, in Wangouman, the goal is to work on the construction “to do” list at the new church. In addition, Dr. Ben, Manette (Haitian nurse), Sue Baker and our teens will make a number of medical home visits throughout the community.
Tuesday through Friday is in Pignon at the Luciens. The mornings will combine a variety of home repair and construction tasks, as well as a continuation of medical home visits. Each afternoon, our teens will work with a small number of Haitian teens and conduct a VBS-type program for local children. The afternoon includes a time of Bible study with our teens and their Haitian co-workers.
It is our prayer that this adventure will become an ongoing part of the GBCYM ministry. Please pray for the team. Political conditions seem relatively calm right now--pray it continues. Haiti is entering into the rainy season--pray for issues of safety. Pray for the health of the team. Most important, pray that God will profoundly challenge the teens and the rest of the team to become more vital followers of Jesus.
