Doing Missions in the Himalayan Mountains

“Tales of mountain kingdoms, showing the Jesus film in remote villages, and staging medical clinics in the snow... where the cold is biting and over mountain roads that skirt the edge of 1000 foot drops...prowling leopards...” Thus began the Tabers’ mission in the Himalayan mountains. Today, the Tabers partner with a Christian school, teaching biology, and their team now includes a young physical therapist and a midwife. They have made the adjustment from life in the West to finding comfort in the mountain lifestyle. Their medical and teaching ministries have built relational bridges into the community. The team often walks the streets of villages and asks if anyone wants prayer.

In response, God has done miracles of healing that people tell over and over. Then, they join the Tabers in Bible Study, talking about Jesus and praying together for specific requests. James Taber knows that these miracles are not the result of his skill or hard work. He comments: “...sometimes God steps in and just acts - fixing broken things in ways that we never could, and showing that it is ultimately He who is working out His plan.”

Continue to praise/pray with the Tabers that our Father God would grant His presence with them and teach them His ways in their kingdom work. Pray that God continues to reveal His glory in the Himalayas. “I am God and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” [Isaiah 46:9b-10]
