It has been said that the Book of Ruth is almost perfect as a piece of literature. The German poet Goethe called it "the loveliest complete work on a small scale" ever written. And Ruth is a very old book - the events took place over three thousand years ago. Could it be relevant and helpful for our lives? Yes! The themes of redemption and sacrificial love permeate this book and challenge us to understand God’s love and to love others like Him. Ruth 1:1-5; Deuteronomy 11:16-17. When did these events take place? Why was there a famine? Why did they decide to go to Moab and what were the results?
