Metaphors are used throughout scripture to help us understand what God is like. Comparing God to something else can also give us a better appreciation of what our relationship with Him is like. Jesus, the prophets and the apostles all used metaphors in an attempt to better communicate these truths. In preparation for this week’s sermon topic, let’s have a look at some of the metaphors for God which are found in the Bible.
Here are a few sample questions you may want to ask yourself as you consider each of them:
What are some of the unique characteristics of each metaphor?
In what ways does this metaphor reveal God’s character?
How can I relate this to my own personal relationship with Him?
