Summer Vision Team, Navajo Nation

Today, we’re commissioning our three youth summer Vision Teams.  Commissioning is a time when the church elders’ prayer for the teams, asking God’s care and oversight.  It is also a time for the congregation to commit themselves to pray for our front-line short-term missionaries.  So, let’s pray.

On Saturday morning, July 1, the Arizona team of 12 teens and 4 leaders will fly from Providence to Albuquerque, NM and then drive to Gallup, New Mexico for their first overnight.  It’s a long day.

Sunday morning will be spent worshipping on the Navajo Reservation at the Good News Church in Houck, Arizona.  In the afternoon, they will settle into their Spartan living arrangements and meet their team leader from LeaderTreks, the organization that organizes the week.

From Monday through Friday morning, our team will be ministering in two ways.  Each morning will be spent in physical work. The goal is to serve the local church by helping with light construction tasks.  In the afternoon, our team will serve the local children by conducting a Vacation Bible School that they created.

Evenings at the mission house include meal preparation (our kids do all the work) and devotions, along with lots of laughter and star gazing.

There are 2 special events during the week.  On Wednesday evening, the folks from Good News Church make supper for the team and share in great fellowship.  On Friday afternoon the team explores early Navajo artifacts in a rigorous hike into Canyon De Chelly.

After packing and cleaning on Saturday morning, they drive to Albuquerque and fly home.

Next week as the team travels to serve, let’s remember our part.  Let’s pray for safety and effective ministry.  Le
