Isaiah 7:10-17 Prophecy
The New Testament fulfillment passage of Matthew 1:22 is not an accommodation to Isaiah 7:14. In fact it’s the other way around. The OT prophecy is only partly represented in the immediate events of Isaiah’s day, as the prophecy’s real intent is about the coming of Israel’s Messiah- the Christ! (JFB Commentary). What is the significance of the rejection of God’s invitation for a sign? How does vs. 14-17 show God’s sovereignty in Isaiah’s time and in ours?
