1. This week the missions committee donated to the Samaritan’s Purse hurricane relief fund. Samaritan’s Purse is led by Franklin Graham, the eldest son of Billy Graham. Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. They are known for effectively providing aid in Christ’s name during times of crisis.
2. Josh and Beka Holbrook have moved from full-time ministry with Equip International, an organization dedicated to preparing people for the real-world of ministry, in Marion, North Carolina. The Holbrooks have two daughters, Chava and baby Josie. Josie has health needs and requires ongoing medical attention. To help meet this need, and with an increasing sense that God has been leading them in a different direction, Josh has taken a job on the teaching staff of Montreat College, a small local Christian school. The Holbrooks have been receiving monthly support from the missions committee which finished at the end of September.
3. The missions committee has enthusiastically decided to provide monthly support for Eric and Deb Riedy. Deb and Eric and their three girls live in Little Rock, Arkansas where Eric is on staff with FamilyLife, part of Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ.) Deb grew up at GBC and met Eric while he was working at Electric Boat. They met at the college and career group (20s) and were married at the Chapel. In 2007, they joined FamilyLife, whose ministry is to effectively develop godly marriages and families who change the world one home at a time.
4. Next Sunday, Dr. Steve and Mary Hawthorne, missionaries from Potosi, Boliva, will be visiting the area and would love to greet you in the fellowship hall between services.
