Rick and Chelsea Conrad and their children, Titus, Lucy, and Joel, are preparing to move to Yaounde, Cameroon where Rick will be serving as a programmer with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They are currently living in France getting intensive language training. Cameroon is a French-speaking country in Central Africa. While it has been relatively stable, there are pockets of unrest, particularly in the northern part of the country. Wycliffe has been making strong gains in their Bible translation work there.
Rick’s most recent newsletter from the beginning of January includes this message:
As I write this, there are approximately 93 days until we get on a plane bound for Cameroon. In that time there are visas to be obtained, packing to do, vaccinations to get, tickets to buy, and all the while our French studies continue. We’re going to be in the same class for the rest of our time here, which will be fun, although it will be quite an adjustment with all three kids going to daycare and school. God has blessed us with wonderful experiences and opportunities during our time here, from Joel’s birth, to making French friends, to speaking in the chapel service (in French of course). We’re really excited about getting to Cameroon, but we’ll definitely miss France!
The entire family has gone through a two-year period of transition as they have prepared for their arrival in Yaounde—and their next “beginning.”
Let’s be in prayer for them. Pray that God will continue to provide them clear direction. Pray as they prepare for Cameroon. Pray for Chelsea as she attends a new French class and leaves Joel in daycare. Pray for continued progress in acquiring fluency in French. Pray for continued opportunity to build friendship with co-workers. Pray for the political stability in Cameroon.
