Spiders and Snakes
Read Isaiah 59: 1-8
Isaiah answers the question of 58:3, by bringing his accusation to the people. Here it is gross injustice, (verses 3-4), where in chapter 57 it was pagan idolatry, and in 58 hypocritical religiosity. Isaiah uses the colorful picture of spiders and snakes to illustrate the futility of pursuing selfish gain, while being unjust and violent to the needy. How are you, how is our church, working to speak for the cause of the voiceless, and to bring protection and care for the marginalized?
