An Urgent Prayer Request from Iraq

From Iraq forwarded to family at GBC this week… It comes from friends serving in missions. “ISIS has taken over the town. They are systematically going house to house to all the Christians and asking the children to denounce Jesus…So far not one child has…All have consequently been killed. But not the parents. The UN has withdrawn and the missionaries are on their own. They are determined to stick it out for the sake for the families - even if it means their own deaths… And like the children, accept martyrdom if…called to do so.” We are asking to pray for courage to live out life according to Christ’s calling and for the “brave parents who instilled such a fervent faith in their children that they chose martyrdom.” Another message comes from Qaraqosh, a city where Christians are providing physical and spiritual care …”it fell to ISIS and they are beheading children systematically… within 10 minutes of where the team is working. The UN evacuated its staff. Our team is unmoved and will stay. Prayer cover is needed!”

Isaiah compares the glory of the Lord with the darkness of the earth. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.” [Isaiah 60:1,2] Take time this week to pray through John 17, praising God for the glory of the cross and what it means for the body of Christ -“I have given them the glory that you gave me , that they may be one as we are one…to let the whole world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me…”
