GBC’s Builders for Christ team returned last Saturday after a successful trip to Smithfield, VA. The team of 20 joined with about 100 other folk from around the country to help start construction on a 18,000 square foot church for Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church who has been meeting in a public school for 13 years. Like GBC in Groton, Harvest Fellowship is deeply committed to sharing the good news of Jesus to its surrounding community.
Tied in by safety lines and assisted by giant cranes, many on the GBC team used their skill as high-flying roof deckers and truss placers for BFC. Other teammates were stationed on the ground pre-fabricating sections to add to the construction. A Christ-centered spirit of unity pervaded the entire work site.
Let us offer thanks for safety in travel and on the worksite, and we can continue to pray for job-site safety as the church construction continues for many weeks. Pray that the new church in Smithfield will become a shining beacon for Christ for many years. Thanks to our team and the 1,000 other helpers that will come this summer to make Harvest Fellowship’s dream become a reality.
