[Below is a report from Jason Belcher who grew up here andwhose parents, Brian & Patti, attend GBC.]
Exciting things are happening in San Diego through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship! At the University of California San Diego (UCSD) this past year, 216 students made significant decisions to follow Jesus. We established 41 new small groups in dorms, apartments, and in niche communities like among athletes and Greek students. Within those small groups, 1 out of every 3 students is a non-Christian checking out Jesus and wanting to learn more about who He is. It’s clear to our staff and student leadership team that God is moving powerfully through small groups, attracting non-believers to seek truth in the Scriptures. As a movement in San Diego, we long to see lost students find Christ and go on to become Kingdom leaders in their industry and sphere of influence.
Join us in praying for the 30,000 students headed back to campus in September, especially the new class of 7,000 freshmen and transfers, that they may be eager to hear and receive the Gospel. Also, please pray for ongoing favor with the university administration, as campus partnership among religious student organizations continues to grow more tenuous and hostile in the California public university system (http://www.nytimes. com/2014/06/10/us/colleges-and-evangelicals-collide-on-biaspolicy. html?_r=1).
