Elisabeth Elliott, missionary among the Auca/Waodoni Indians of Ecuador, once posted this prayer. “Gracious Father, we pray that you will fill us with all truth, in all truth and with all peace. Where we are corrupt, purify us; where we are in error, direct us; where in anything we are amiss, reform us. Where we are right, strengthen us; where we are in want, provide for us; where we are divided, reunite us; for the sake of Jesus Christ, your Son our Savior. Amen.”
Or as one of our GBC family members has encouraged us, “We need always to keep the main thing, the main thing.” May God unite our GBC family as we arm ourselves to “fight the good fight of the faith” and above all else, to pray. This week let’s pray together for…
• Isis threats, particularly their threat to target our military families and fill us with fear. Pray for families, especially those at GBC whose husbands/fathers are serving at sea or on assignment. Ask God for peace and boldness and wisdom.
• Ebola is now predicted to add 5-10,000 new cases weekly by December 1. Again, ask God to grant courage and peace here in the USA and wisdom and compassion in treating the epidemic worldwide.
• We pray for the Haitian church and we are working on clean water, food, and health care as we share God’s Word. Pray also that government officials would turn to Christ and the entire country be transformed by godly rule. Pray especially that the Ebola virus will not spread to this country.
• Some have recently followed Jesus in baptism in countries where other gods are worshipped; pray for their faithful witness and courage in persecution.
Pray motivated by Jesus’ words – “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” [Matthew 14:27]
